Maps Community Foundation

Maps Community Foundation

Maps Community Foundation formed in 2010 as the charitable giving arm of Maps Credit Union. The Foundation was established with a focus on improving the quality of life in the communities served by Maps through encouraging financial literacy and promoting economic development. With Maps historic roots in public education, a primary focus for the Foundation has always been education and life-long learning. Today the Foundation’s broader mission is to enrich the lives of members and our community by investing in education, economic empowerment and community vibrancy. Giving is focused in Marion and Polk counties where the majority of Maps members reside. Key programs include student scholarships, teacher grants, impact partnerships, school donations, community awards, and event sponsorships.

Mr. Dan Penn served 29 years as a leader of Maps Credit Union and retired as president in December 2008. He was honored by the Maps Board of Directors who established a scholarship fund in Penn’s name to express the values shown in his leadership style and his high regard for continuous lifetime learning. The Dan Penn Maps Credit Union Scholarships provide support for seniors graduating from local high schools.

Impact

Over its first 10 years, the Maps Community Foundation impacted our community in many meaningful ways including college scholarships, teacher grants, donations to Doernbecher’s Children’s Hospital, financial education, community grants, event sponsorships, and more. In July 2018, the Maps Credit Union board further elevated the commitment to giving back to the community, by making “giveback” one of six major themes in the Maps 10-year vision.
